Guest Post: Angela's Best of 2014!

Hello! I'm Angela from Do Want Makeup, guest posting for April today about "Best of 2014"! As a self-confessed nail polish addict, when I heard the CBB December guest post theme, naturally I jumped right away to tackle this with a nail polish spin! Here's my list of favourite polishes that I discovered this year (some launched in 2014, others have been available for a while):

Left to right: Essie Urban Jungle, China Glaze Japanese Koi, Urban Decay Chaos, China Glaze Too Yacht To Handle, OPI Alpine Snow, OPI Glitter Off Base Coat
Essie Urban Jungle was released earlier this summer in the Haute in the Heat collection. Essie always does neutrals so well, and I fell in love with it right away. This off-white with hints of grey and pink is incredibly chic and works in any setting, whether it's the beach, office, date night, or a wedding (something about it is just so bridal!) It's not the easiest shade to apply, but I'm willing to overlook it because it's such a lovely colour.

China Glaze Japanese Koi is from a tattoo-inspired collection a few years back, but I only just picked it up this year--to be exact, it was actually bf picked this one out for me! This is an insanely hot, eye-searing neon orange. These kinds of colours tend to make cameras freak out, so it looks red here, but it's seriously safety pylon orange. I ended up being pretty surprised at how much I enjoyed the intensity and brightness of this shade.

Urban Decay Chaos
Urban Decay Chaos was a total steal at $5 from Nordstrom Rack. I love how the super fine glass fleck adds so much dimension to the bright cobalt blue base. The formula is also a dream to work with; you can bet that if Urban Decay releases more polishes in the future, I'll be snapping them up.

China Glaze Too Yacht To Handle is a brightened turquoise creme. Turquoise is a real weakness colour for me, and it seems like every year I manage to find a new favourite version of it. This year's turquoise is so sunny and poolside-perfect; it's like the much brighter sister of the iconic China Glaze For Audrey.

OPI Alpine Snow is a white creme, which I know is not exactly exciting or super special. I bought this probably back in the summer and it's been a total workhorse polish for me since, so I definitely had to include it. The pure white makes a perfect base to create nail art, and the consistency is great for dotting or painting details. It's probably my most-used polish and I think I'm already down to 3/4 of a bottle actually!
A special mention goes to OPI Glitter Off Base Coat. This is the base coat I use underneath super glittery nail looks when I know that removal is going to be total agony later. Instead of having to wrap my nails in foil in a sad Edward Scissorhands imitation and scrub at glitter polish, each nail peels off cleanly in one piece. The drawback is that my polish chips much more readily (~2 days), but I change out my polish so frequently that it hardly matters compared to the convenience. This past year, I noticed that I really embraced bright shades, compared to previous years when I preferred dustier, muted colours. I'm excited to see what kind of shades we'll get in 2015's collections (although frankly I'm dreading all the Marsala interpretations!) What have been the standout nail polishes for you this year?
